Fantastic if you're a fan of Heartbeat!
A little pricey with a limited menu but you're paying for the experience

I don’t like leaving negative reviews but not a very positive visit.
Bar staff very uninterested . Very few people in but still having to wait for any service.
I had the steak pie and chips for £15.75 , I know all costs have increased but it was a poor offering for the price, no greens and bland . I think the small round pie probably came from the village pie shop / cafe ? Just a cold unfriendly atmosphere in general. I will say the lady who served the pie was pleasant.

Unfortunately my husband needs a mobility scooter and there is no disabled access to the building. When we enquired the member of staff was dismissive and quite rude. Not at all impressed and won't be returning. Think they may also be breaking the law as discriminating against people with disabilities.

Where to start, genuinely thought we were in one of the Fawlty Towers experience type venues. Rude, unprofessional and appeared to be uninterested in having any dialogue other than to tell you how much the rip off drinks were. Mentioned our experience to one of the locals and was told that locals don't go in. Living off the Heartbeat reputation but don't give a flying xxxx about the customers.

Had some okay food here. Pub needs a complete refurbishment. Owner very unfriendly. Other staff were polite and friendly.

Very rude and unfriendly bar woman. Clearly didn't want our custom and obviously in the wrong trade. I have to add that the waitress was lovely. Just such a shame we had to encounter such a mean bar/landlady .

Called in for a few drinks and I’ve never been to such an unfriendly pub. For being in the hospitality industry, they were anything but hospitable. Definitely in the wrong trade! Trying to get any sort of conversation going was impossible. No wonder the place was empty. Zero atmosphere and only one other couple in there. Got talking to another couple in a different establishment and they’d had the same experience as us. Very disappointing.
The staff would definitely benefit from some additional hospitality training! I’d give zero stars but sadly it isn’t an option

Stopped off at the rail station and had a wander around the village until the next train arrived. Stopped in the hotel for something to eat before it closed for the afternoon (which a fair few pubs in the country side still do, as why stay open if the main customers are at work , and a fair few of the reviews seem to have forgotten being city or townies types where pubs stay open for longer hours.) found was nice, the pies were good quality and better then most chain pubs we have eaten in, the decor is old and gives it a rustic charm. Staff were nice and friendly and service was prompt.

Visited for Sunday lunch, very odd set up-felt more like walking into a village hall than a pub. Abrupt service, ordering at the bar, then having to pay for drinks first then return and pay for food there after-fair enough I suppose. Tried to order the roast beef to be told none left, with the passing chuckle from the barman “you’ll have to turn up earlier next time, it’s very popular”, although pleased to have dodged it when I saw the last of the beef that arrived at the table next to us - one of the most bland depressing roast dinners I’ve ever seen.
We settled for the steak and ale pie for the mrs and I had the ham egg and chips, both disappointing but not inedible, very flat to almost none existent atmosphere; if this pub was not in such a popular tourist area it would most certainly not survive.
Will most definitely return to Goathland but will never step inside this pub again, it was only a last resort as not being able to get in elsewhere.

Visited this place today and was so looking forward to seeing the Heartbeat pub. What an absolute disappointment, the man behind the bar was very unhelpful and not particularly nice either. When you have an iconic pub like this one surely you should try to make customers have a wonderful experience, perhaps ought to be sold to someone with enthusiasm !!!!!!

A local place for local people. The woman who served use really had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp 🐝 ! Tutting and eye rolling and rushing you out at a bizarre half day close?? Weird! No concept of customer service and over priced. Horrible will not go there again and encourage people who aren’t from Goathland to steer clear

Popped in for a drink. Awful experience, and tainted our lovely trip to the scenic area. Rude staff, dirty and unclean pub, over priced drinks, disgusting family room! Outdated, tired decor. This is such a shame, as the building is stunning and their is a constant stream of visitors to the location for its links to heartbeat as well as its natural beauty. I'm just so pleased we didn't sample the food here. The couple next to us did, it looked horrendous. They left feeling out of pocket and did not eat any of it. Avoid!

Called in for a drink with my wife and our dog. Went to sit at an unoccupied table to be immediately told by a female bar person "no" with no explanation what "no" meant, such as the table was reserved. Meanwhile my wife was at the bar and asked for a "Mad Goose" and the male bar person said he had no idea what she was talking about. They only had two cask ales, one of which was called "Mad Goose".
While all this was going on a dog barked briefly at our dog and the female bar person rudely asked them to move to another room, despite them stating they are dog friendly.
It's up to them how they run their business but being rude to customers isn't my idea of how to run a successful one

We have been here before with some friends a few years ago and had a lovely visit. However, we are staying in Scarborough and came here for a day out with the pooch and the weather wasn’t great but we thought we would have an aperitif!! £16 later for a double rum and coke and SMALL blush wine which I thought at the time was a little expensive and didn’t say anything and then the landlady embarrassed me by saying my little Cavapoo should be on the floor… she was sat on my knee!!! RUDE!!! I appreciate dog should be on a short lead and under control and she was!!! After finishing our drinks we left and went over to the Inn on the Moor which was far more welcoming and had Sunday Lunch! Cheaper drinks and better service.
